WALDO'S WALDO

DESCRIPTION
ROLE :
LEVEL DESIGNER
ENGINE :

GENRE :
PUZZLE ADVENTURE
GAME
Waldo's Waldo is a puzzle adventure game where you play as the titular Waldo himself.
In this first-place winning submission to the McGill Game Jam, Waldo got himself stuck in a game jam-themed world, and must escape the sight of a peculiar player. The only way out is by playing Where's Waldo yourself, picking up items, and running away from the player's sight!
My contributions to the game are as follows :
• Help conceive the idea behind the game, both gameplay and concept.
• Conceive the game's level.
• Greyboxing the section, whilst modifying it with feedback from the team.

Base Concept Ideas
Knowing that the theme of the jam was "Lost and Found", the team and I had discussed for a while about what kind of game we wanted to make. Eventually, we landed on a funny idea that one of them said : "What if we were playing Waldo, playing Where's Waldo, while being searched by a player?"
We loved the idea, and went straight to work. My immediate idea was to make game jam-themed map, which would then be in the same art style as Where's Waldo.

Dressing & Polishing
With blocking done, the environment artist came in and started helping with making and replacing level art assets for the environment. I helped here and there, particularly on choosing where certain game mechanics and environment mechanics would be useful (like portals, where item power ups would be placed, etc.)
Having not touched Unity in a while, this was a fun challenge to get back into the rhythm of the engine.
